first aldine edition of the writings of Apuleius, including his Metamorphoses, the sole Roman novel to survive complete, together with the first edition in the original greek of the epitome of Platonic philosophy by Alcinous; first state of the title, with 'Ttropiensis' in the penultimate line. The Dutch-born London bookseller and binder John Reynes was active circa 1510-44. The panel stamps employed here are customarily found together.
